Pita sa Višnjama (Cherry Phyllo Pie)

A sweet, crispy phyllo pie filled with tart cherries — a beloved Serbian dessert, perfect with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 500g sour cherries (fresh or frozen, pitted)
  • 250g phyllo dough
  • 150g sugar
  • 100ml oil
  • 50g breadcrumbs
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix cherries with sugar.
  3. Grease a baking pan. Lay one sheet of phyllo, brush with oil, sprinkle breadcrumbs.
  4. Add another sheet, repeat.
  5. Place a line of cherries along one side of the sheet, roll into a log.
  6. Repeat until done, arranging rolls in the pan.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
