Gulaš (Serbian Beef Stew)

A rich and hearty beef stew, slow-cooked with spices and vegetables for a true taste of Balkan comfort food.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef, cubed
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 2 potatoes, cubed
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté onions until soft.
  2. Add garlic, beef cubes, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned.
  3. Stir in paprika, cumin, and tomato paste.
  4. Add beef stock, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
  5. Add potatoes and carrots, cook for another 30–40 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with fresh bread.
